Chris Todd Andaya

Chris Todd Andaya is an author, high school mathematics teacher, and U.S. Army veteran based in Colorado. He is the author of ReImagining Algebra, Volume 1: Foundations, which explores mathematics education, student engagement, and the creative craft of teaching.

Before entering education, Andaya served two deployments in Iraq and spent more than a decade working in software engineering and cybersecurity. He holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science from San Diego State University and pursued graduate studies in software engineering at Harvard Extension School.

His experience shapes his approach to teaching algebra: encourage curiosity, make room for exploration, and help students build confidence through meaningful challenges.

Guided by his conviction that “Teaching is a performance art, with the rigorous intent of imparting knowledge,” Andaya writes about storytelling, creativity, and human connection in the classroom.

He teaches at Fountain-Fort Carson High School, where his classroom provides a continuing source of questions, discoveries, and inspiration for his writing.
